About

Thank you for visiting the Web Site of the Caterham and District Model Flying Club.  (CDMFC). The club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association and therefore all our members are enrolled in the BMFA with its collective insurance benefits.  Please use the link to WWW.BMFA.Org to find out more.

We are a small friendly club whose members range from beginners to advanced flyers and come from a wide variety of backgrounds, we have airline pilots, civil servants, business men and increasingly, a large representative number of retired folk.

Nowadays, the name of the Club does not represent where our flying site is located or even where we hold our monthly meetings. Our Flying Site is located in farmland to the South of Oxted in Surrey and is approached via Gibbs Brook Lane, from either the North or South. It is a private site, but the pit area is bordered by woodland beyond which runs a public footpath.

Our site is accessed by a track across a field, this track has to be negotiated on foot during the winter months, but during the summer, it has vehicle access adjacent to the pits.   The gate to the car park is kept padlocked at all times to prevent unauthorised access and to deter fly tipping which is sadly common in the area.

The Club has used the same site since the early 1990’s and by careful consideration of the noise limits by the members have encountered few problems.

Flying of I/C powered models is limited strictly to within specified flying times, although quiet electric models can be flown at any time.

The CDMFC caters for fixed wing (scale, aerobatic, sport and fun fly models). Most members fly fixed wing aircraft, although some members also own helicopters.

We have several fixed wing instructors and three BMFA qualified examiners within the club for teaching complete beginners to those wishing to learn more advanced flying skills. We also have Club training aircraft to assist those new to the hobby before they purchase their own models.  These are used on a Buddy Box setup to hopefully prevent damage to models in the early stages of learning.

The CDMFC holds monthly club nights at the South Godstone Sports Club.  We have a mixed program of activities throughout the year ranging from quiz nights to the occasional outside speaker.

At the Flying Field we hold monthly Flying Competitions where members compete against each other in a closely contested series of events.  Prizes are presented at our annual awards evening.

The Club disseminates information to members by means of regular emails, and we have a  Club Facebook Page and our website  has a members only area available to members by means of a password.

The club welcomes visitors to our Club Nights and to the Flying Field.  We encourage prospective members to visit us and check out our flying site and meet members before making an application to join the Club or parting with any money.

The CDMFC has a Club Constitution which contains the Club Rules and Flying Site Rules.  This will be sent to prospective members who will be required to sign on their application form that they agree to abide by them.

We have a strong fun fly legacy and members of the Club also organise the National Fun Fly championships held in August each year by the BMFA.

Whilst young people are welcome to join the club we are unable to provide parental or guardian care, therefore a condition of membership is that all under 18 year olds are accompanied by a responsible adult whilst at the flying field and at other club activities.

Club membership numbers are limited but we do sometimes have a few spaces.   Please contact mail@cdmfc.org.uk to find out more,
